Removing Cat Urine In Your Carpet

Eliminating Cat Urine In Your Carpet

Dogs, cats, and other furry little critters are a joy to have for those pet enthusiasts among us, however they can also turn into a headache when they want to stop following the rules of the house.

But then, if you have a cat, then you know how they seem to live by their own set of rules. Often, that may include going on your carpet.

Removing cat urine from carpets or rugs is a whole lot trickier than from your hardwood flooring, tiles or linoleum. Although this might be bad news, removing it and the odor it results in is not impossible, so you might as well do it correctly and as thoroughly as possible.

Pet odor removal from carpets does not have to be as challenging as you might believe. Just do what professionals do when eliminating cat urine in carpets with the following simple steps, and it doesn’t even matter if the stains are old and dry or new and wet:

Step 1: Locate the areas where the stains are visible or where the odors are obvious. If you cannot see the stains yet you can smell them, use a stain detection black light.

Step 2: Place a new bag in your vacuum cleaner to increase its suction power. Even a half full vacuum cleaner bag can lessen the suction and you will need everything you can get out of it.

Step 3: Thoroughly vacuum the soiled areas and then generously apply a mixture of 1/3 cup of white vinegar, 2/3 cup warm water, 1/4 cup mouthwash (any brand which contains alcohol) and 1/4 cup of dish washing detergent. Let it all stand for roughly 45 minutes.

Step 4: Gently scrub the whole area in a circular motion using a soft clean brush and soak up the residual moisture with clean white paper towels. Colorful patterned paper towels could bleed color onto your carpet and develop stains of a different nature.

Step 5: Generously apply warm water and let it stand for 15 minutes then soak it up with a clean towel or a cloth.

Step 6: Thoroughly vacuum the entire location and sprinkle with baking soda. Allow it to stand for a couple of hours and then vacuum all this up.

Your carpet should now be clean and smelling fresh without resorting to any abrasive chemicals.
